Extinction Economy Hero: Mary Rice

Monday, September 28, 2015

We’ve talked about the villains who profit from the Extinction Economy, now let’s take a week to celebrate the heroes who fight everyday to save animals facing extinction!

Our first hero we are celebrating this week in the fight against the Extinction Economy is Mary Rice, Executive Director of the Environmental Investigation Agency. Mary investigates and runs campaigns against illegal wildlife trade. With close to two decades of experience fighting the Extinction Economy, Mary has extensive knowledge of the illegal international trade in ivory and is a true hero.

Mary has been an incredible advocate in support of voting Yes On I-1401 this November, saying:

“Over the past decade, the involvement of organized criminals targeting endangered wildlife has grown faster than we thought possible. Its presence is felt in many markets, including the U.S. We are literally driving species to extinction – from rhinos to rays – and decisive leadership at the state level is needed to stop this trend. Initiative 1401 closes loopholes and provides law enforcement with critical tools to combat the illegal trade.”

Will you join Mary Rice and be a hero in the fight against the Extinction Economy and vote #YesOn1401 to save animals facing extinction?
