Extinction Economy Hero: Taylor Hoang

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

We are excited this week to celebrate the incredible heroes fighting to save animals facing extinction. So far we have applauded the work of Mary Rice  of the Environmental Investigation Agency and Dr. Sam Wasser, Director of the Center for Conservation Biology at the University of Washington.

Today we celebrate a local community and business leader, Taylor Hoang, Executive Director of the Ethnic Business Coalition. As a leader not just in the Asian-American community, but the entire city of Seattle, we are honored to have her support in the campaign to create new protections for species like sharks, elephants and lions in Washington State. Taylor’s support is also a reminder to us all that we all have a role to play in working to make sure these majestic animals don’t disappear forever. We especially applaud her leadership in Seattle and Washington State’s Asian-American community as a tireless voice for the community’s efforts to honor diverse cultural practices while also protecting threatened species like sharks from disappearing forever. Whether you are a scientist or an advocate, a business owner or someone who is just looking to make a difference, we can all do our part this November by voting Yes on I-1401.

Taylor Hoang, an incredible local leader and advocate for I-1401, says:

“The demand for shark fin is driving several shark populations toward extinction. As I am opposed to the cultural practice of consuming shark fin soup, I support the passing of Initiative 1401, which makes it illegal to sell or trade elephant ivory, shark fins and other animal parts derived from certain exotic, endangered creatures.”

Please join us in celebrating Taylor Hoang’s leadership to save animals facing extinction and remember that you too can make a difference this election by filling out your ballot in support Initiative 1401!
